Mayor Zimmer and Officials Break Ground on 7th and Jackson Resiliency Park

Breaking Ground

Today Mayor Dawn Zimmer joined other elected officials, dignitaries, and members of the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of a 2-acre park and public gymnasium as part of the 700 Jackson Street development project.

“This park will bring much-needed open space to a growing mixed-use, transit-oriented neighborhood and will build upon our flood resiliency strategy,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “I thank the City Council, Bijou Properties, Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation, and members of the community who worked together to make this possible.”

“700 Jackson is reaching for new heights as a transit-oriented, smart growth community,” said Larry Bijou, Managing Partner of Bijou Properties. “Kudos to the City of Hoboken in helping to bring this modern development to fruition.”

Tis the Season for Renovations and Upgrades in Hoboken!

You read it right! Construction will soon begin to enhance and renovate Washington Street. The project will also add 15 new traffic lights, each with a pedestrian countdown signals, along with other important and necessary safety/design features.   In 2015 alone, nearly a fifth of all of Hoboken’s streets were repaved. More repaving continues to progress into the new year.

Water Main Upgrades

Aside from the re-pavement of our city streets, the entire water main system will be replaced on Washington Street from Observer Highway to 15th street as part of the Washington Street Project. The city of Hoboken will be making a $5.2 million investment in priority upgrades to the city’s water mains in the year ahead. This proactive approach will make for a more reliable and sustainable system for the long run.

New and Renovated Parks

Over the past year or so, the city council and the community has made incredible progress on bringing more park space to the western side of the city. Not only does this make for beautiful scenery, but it alleviates flooding through green infrastructure park designs such as rain gardens, hundreds of new trees, and the City Hall Demonstration Project. Expect more parks, less flooding, soccer fields, and renovated features throughout the parks of Hoboken!

 

Transportations Improvements

Hoboken is making it easier to safely get around town with all different modes of transportation. Hudson bike share boasts over 10,000 members! This program launched in the fall of 2015 and been on a roll. After just one year, more than 11,000 members have taken 137,000 trips through the program, which operates without any taxpayer dollars. To sign up , visit http://www.hudsonbikeshare.com . Pay by phone parking is now available! Drivers can now use their mobile phone to easily pay for parking using the Parkmobile application. The app provides reminders before the parking session expires and allows users to add more time directly from the app without retuning to the meter or car. Another improvement to add to the list is new public parking garage for NW Hoboken. The planning process for the garage will start in 2017.

Jersey City’s Building Boom

It’s hard to keep up with all of the new construction going on in Jersey City. A few years back, some of our agents called it in advance, saying Jersey City would definitely expand in the next few years. Well it certainly has. Three months ago, an article stated that Jersey City is expecting nearly 3,000+ residential units to come before the end of the 2015. NJ.com quotes in recent news that “Two new hotels are coming to Jersey City, a five-story, 87-room hotel slated for a mostly vacant lot outside of the Holland Tunnel and a seven-story, 75-room one on Tonnele Avenue at Secaucus Road”. There are also talks of a new casino to be built at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, although it hasn’t yet been confirmed. Another recent announcement proposes four new residential buildings planned for Mueller’s old pasta factory. These residential buildings would hold 980 units on the 5.2 acre site according to developer Argent Ventures. Prweb noted that “by year-end 2014, homebuilders obtained 5,641 permits for multi-family projects in Hudson County, reaching a record high”.
