As reported by Gerard Stier, circle of excellence winner ….. There is a great new addition to the downtown Hoboken food scene, The Empanada Café. Here just a week and it is already having a big impact. There are not many choices other than pizza or a deli sandwich when you think of a quick inexpensive bite to eat. Enter the Empanadas Café: fresh, cheap and delicious.
The restaurant is the brainchild of brothers Gustov and Pablo Spadavecchio, along with their old friend and partner Alessandro Uva. Both Gustov and Pablo grew up here in Hoboken, leaving to start a restaurant in Hackensack. That successful venture gave the trio the confidence to give Hoboken a try and we are truly glad they did!
The empanadas are fantastic, with a major emphasis on fresh ingredients. The menu changes often with creative ingredients to keep you guessing. In addition to the staples chicken and beef, they also have tuna, pork and plums, blue cheese & walnuts, and the newly named “Hoboken empanada” which is stuffed with bacon and cheese, and tastes like a savory quiche Lorraine. In addition, they make baked pies and even some desserts and organic coffee made to order. The empanadas are baked, not fried, and completely stuffed in the Argentine style. So far, the place is a hit, with over 4,000 empanadas sold in the first week. Don’t be the last to try this wonderful new restaurant!
Regular empanadas (fist sized) only $3.00 Specials are $3.50 Baked pies $7.50, and they also do catering!
