Tis the Season for Renovations and Upgrades in Hoboken!

shot-4

You read it right! Construction will soon begin to enhance and renovate Washington Street. The project will also add 15 new traffic lights, each with a pedestrian countdown signals, along with other important and necessary safety/design features.   In 2015 alone, nearly a fifth of all of Hoboken’s streets were repaved. More repaving continues to progress into the new year.

Water Main Upgrades

Aside from the re-pavement of our city streets, the entire water main system will be replaced on Washington Street from Observer Highway to 15th street as part of the Washington Street Project. The city of Hoboken will be making a $5.2 million investment in priority upgrades to the city’s water mains in the year ahead. This proactive approach will make for a more reliable and sustainable system for the long run.

New and Renovated Parks

Over the past year or so, the city council and the community has made incredible progress on bringing more park space to the western side of the city. Not only does this make for beautiful scenery, but it alleviates flooding through green infrastructure park designs such as rain gardens, hundreds of new trees, and the City Hall Demonstration Project. Expect more parks, less flooding, soccer fields, and renovated features throughout the parks of Hoboken!

Transportations Improvements

Hoboken is making it easier to safely get around town with all different modes of transportation. Hudson bike share boasts over 10,000 members! This program launched in the fall of 2015 and been on a roll. After just one year, more than 11,000 members have taken 137,000 trips through the program, which operates without any taxpayer dollars. To sign up , visit http://www.hudsonbikeshare.com . Pay by phone parking is now available! Drivers can now use their mobile phone to easily pay for parking using the Parkmobile application. The app provides reminders before the parking session expires and allows users to add more time directly from the app without retuning to the meter or car. Another improvement to add to the list is new public parking garage for NW Hoboken. The planning process for the garage will start in 2017.

Opening Soon: Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s is one of America’s favorite grocery stores and Hoboken is looking forward to welcoming this establishment to the community!!!

Stay Tuned, Hoboken! Renovations and Upgrades are on the way!!!

Tall and Colorful David Bowie Mural in Jersey City

Jersey City is now home to the latest installment in a series of portrait murals by world-renowned street artist Eduardo Kobra. Measuring 180 feet tall which is Kobra’s tallest to date. Kobra’s project took about two weeks to complete and is part of the Jersey City Mural Art Program. This tall anddavid-bowie colorful mural depicts pop icon David Bowie. Why Bowie? Many of Eduardo’s murals are historical figures that represent peace and acceptance. He’s painted similar murals of Gandhi, Abraham Lincoln, Bob Dylan, Nelson Mandela, and John Lennon, all utilizing bright colors and bold lines. An ongoing theme in his work is respect for cultural differences and love for others. Bowie is a shining example of this philosophy. The Brazilian artist is recently credited for creating the “largest spray paint mural by a team” by the Guinness Book of World Records for his Olympic Games-inspired piece “Ethnicities.”

Blanketing the side of Cast Iron Lofts, at 837 Jersey Avenue, this new mural is unmistakable to the thousands of people who pass through Jersey City on the way to Hoboken and Manhattan daily. It stands as a beacon to Jersey City’s burgeoning art and culture scene.

Pinot’s Palette

It’s the year of wine (ing) & painting! Wine & Paint events have become the latest fad. This fun hobby can be for everyone; men, women, teens (depending on the location of the event – some may require to be accompanied by an adult), families, couples, etc! Depending on the studio, wine is sometimes included with your ticket purchase, while other studios may have a liquor license. What does a Wine & Paint night involve, you ask? Well, recently, I had the honor of attending a Wine & Paint night at Pinot’s Palette located in Hoboken, NJ.

It was a Saturday night, and my mother’s birthday, so I thought what better way to celebrate than to sip wine & make beautiful paintings! There, the instructor gives you very detailed step-by-step instructions to walk you through painting a wonderful painting on your blank canvas.. Yes, blank canvas. When my mom first found out this wasn’t paint by numbers, or paint within a thin line already sketched out activity, she freaked a little. But don’t you worry! like I said, the instructor, at a fair pace, walks you through all of the steps. I personally loved this. At the end, you and the other attendee’s pictures may look similar from afar, but they’re all uniquely personalized and different. Everyone has different ways of stoking their brush along the canvas, and mixing colors. Wine & Paint nights are not only a bonding experience, but it’s also relaxing. As their motto goes, It’s a time to “Paint. Drink. Have Fun.”

The owner of Pinot’s Palette let us know we could bring snacks, cupcakes, cake (since it was my mom’s birthday) – which was wonderful! We got to sip, paint, and eat cupcakes. What else could a girl want?! After we were done with our cupcakes, the paint was dry by then, so we stood up on their small stage they have in their studio, and we all held up our paintings – which really made you feel like Picasso with your masterpiece! Some studios allow you to bring food, while others are held at restaurants. It really all depends on the location! When choosing your Wine & Paint night, be sure to read the details for events near you. The details should fill you in on which painting they’re doing that night, wine included or not, and if it fits your liking! If you’re looking for a relaxing, but fun night out in Hoboken, make sure you check out Pinot’s Palette!
